Awesome, Group 3

Group 3 taught all three lessons and overall they did a great job! The first thing I noticed that they did differently than the my group and group 2 was their call to attention.  Instead of the teachers saying something and the students quietly perform and action to show us that they have given us their attention, they had a call and response.  The teachers would call out "holy moly" and the students would respond "guacamole!" I thought this was creative and at first the fifth graders did well with it; however, as time went on it became more of a joke to the students and they would start to yell inappropriate responses. As this continued, Ms. Rosengrant told the students that if the continued to do so, they would lose a position on their emoji slide game; this was the groups behavior management system.  I believe that group 3 did a great job interacting the students and incorporating technology.  For all three lessons, they included a talking panda emoji named Petunia to read review questions to the students and to pose problems to the students.  I liked this because it made it seem as though the teachers weren't the only ones teaching.  They also used the iPads during their inquiry lesson for a WebQuest which the students also seemed to enjoy. They also included word arts in their lessons which I love.  Sometimes, the students would get rowdy during transitions and I wouldn't see the teachers implementing their behavior management system.  Following through with any system you have in place in the classroom is very important so that you are getting the desired behavior from the students. Also, during the independent practice in both inquiry and cooperative, the students would be talking and sharing their thoughts with each other.  This does not show what the students learned on their own, but this group did have a lot of group collaboration among the students especially in cooperative learning. Group three's cooperative learning was very organized and they had everything pre-assigned to the students which made it run much smoother.  The students seemed to really enjoy the assignment that group 3 gave and they all did a great job presenting! I liked that each group had something different to present.  Overall, group three did an awesome job.  They had great time management and you could tell that teaching came very naturally to them! Now, it is time for group four.... the final group to teach!
